Jaguar Mark 2 3.4 - 691 COH
The Mark 2 Jaguar was launched in 1959 and was the second generation of Jaguar's compact 2.4 and 3.4 litre saloons, hence 'Mark 2'. Although at first glance the cars appeared similar to their predecessors there were, in fact, many differences, both internally, externally and under the bonnet which reflected the experience gained from four years of production of the older cars.
The Mark 2s came with a choice of three engine sizes: 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre and 3.8 litre. Internally however, all models were identical and sported luxurious leather and lacquered wood trim. Whilst the 2.4 litre was designed to appeal to 'entry level' Jaguar owners by virtue of its lower price tag, the 3.4 and 3.8 litre cars are the most desirable models due to their hugely improved performance over the smaller engined car. 3.8 litre cars were rallied and raced very successfully through the 1960s and even today boast a 0 - 60 mph time which can outstrip many modern production cars. For many Jaguar enthusiasts however, it is the 3.4 litre version of the car, as owned by Big Cat, which is the overall favourite, losing almost nothing to the 3.8 in performance but with a smoother engine providing improved ride and comfort.
At the time of their launch, these cars were so technically advanced that they could not be matched by any other production saloon. Their only real rivals were the sportscars from such manufacturers as Aston Martin, none of which could be bought for anything approaching the low price of the Jaguars.
Our 3.4 Mk 2, 691 COH has been lovingly restored inside and out and is the perfect choice as a wedding car. The smell and feel of the leather and wood interior will transport you not only to your destination, but also back in time to a golden age of British motoring. Recently voted one of the most instantly recognizable classic cars, the Mark 2 had its place in history already firmly established when, in 1987, a certain beer-drinking, opera-loving, crossword-solving Oxford detective cruised onto television screens in his burgundy Mark 2. The phenomenally successful series that was Inspector Morse began, and the Mark 2 soon became once again the Jaguar that everyone wanted.
